The current artboard, a range or the whole document, as separate files or one PDF, with your Illustrator PDF presets. Your working document keeps its name. Add a printer's confidence strip for large format printers, and run the spell checker before exporting if you like.

File names that tell the story

Build the name from custom text, a timestamp, weekday, day, month and year, the linked file's name, the artboard's name, size and number, the number of artboards and pages exported, the document's colour mode (handy for catching errors further down the line) and the document's file name. Add fields that ask you as you export, like a revision number.

Saved where it belongs

Save to the folder you last exported to, Documents, a fixed place, the document's own folder, or a subfolder (made if it doesn't exist). Ask for each file name or save without asking, and open the folder when it's done. Keep different sets of defaults for different jobs.
