Every barcode type, made inside Illustrator

EAN-13, UPC, ISBN, Code 128, GS1-128, ITF-14, QR, Data Matrix, PDF417, GS1 DataBar, GS1 Digital Link, postal and pharmaceutical codes, and many more: 103 types in all. Barcode is built on BWIPP (Barcode Writer in Pure PostScript), the open standard engine, kept up to date, and each type links to its documentation. You get a live preview and a check as you type, with tips for the tricky types.

QR codes made easy

Yes, Barcode makes QR codes. Pick a template and fill in the boxes: a website link, an email (address, subject and message), a phone number, a text message (SMS), a contact card (vCard: name, organisation, job title, phones, email, website and address, so a phone offers "Add contact") or a Wi-Fi login (network name, password and security, so a phone offers to join the network). Or type any text you like. Choose the error correction level (low to high) and the size, and the QR code lands in your artwork as clean vector art in your colours. Micro QR, Rectangular Micro QR, GS1 QR, GS1 Digital Link QR and Swiss QR-bill codes are there too.

Turn old raster barcodes into clean vectors

Supplied artwork often has a blurry, pixelated or badly scaled barcode. Select it and Scan reads it: its type and full contents (handy to see what a QR code holds). Click Use and Barcode remakes it as crisp vector art, at the right size, in your colours, ready for print. It reads small, rotated and rough codes, and several at once, and it works offline: nothing leaves your computer.

Clean vector artwork in your colours

Each code is made right in your document as one tidy group: the bars as one compound path and the text as outlines, nothing stroked. Use your exact CMYK or RGB colours for the bars, text, background and border.

Ink spread to a fraction of a point

Reduce the bar width to allow for ink spread on your press, separately across and up and down for 2D codes, or use a negative value to fatten thin bars. Set the magnification, bar height, text size and position, borders, bearer bars, background and offsets.

GS1 size check

Pick what the code is for (retail point of sale, warehouse, logistic units, healthcare, Digital Link and more). Barcode shows the X-dimension (bar width) and GS1 magnification, warns you when the size or bar height is outside the GS1 range, and "Use GS1 Size" sets it for you. Sizes come from the GS1 General Specifications.

Batches in seconds

Paste a list of codes and make them all at once, laid out in a grid in your document (60 codes in about 3 seconds) or saved as separate files: print-ready PDF or EPS in your exact CMYK or RGB colours (each with its quiet zone and an optional margin for bleed; EPS with a preview), SVG for the web, PNG or true CMYK TIFF.

Why not just use a free online generator?

Online generators give you an RGB picture or an SVG that you then have to recolour, resize, outline and check.
